I settled on a Cobra 400w inverter, though I certainly won't ever be using anywhere near that much power through the unit I needed dual outlets with a little space between them and I also liked the fact that the fan doesn't kick on unless the unit needs it.

Okay, I've finished the inverter addition.

Once I get the new TV mounted to the swivel platform and put back in the TV cabinet, I'll post a couple of final pics of the install. The new Coby TV only pulls 20 watts and the Boxee Box only 15 watts, so I'm guessing that I shouldn't have any concerns at all running them during an overnight out on the lake. I'll probably leave the new TV (a 120v Coby 15") and the Boxee Box plugged into the 120v outlets since I'll mostly be watching while on shore power, but with the inverter mounted inside the same cabinet just below the 120v outlets, it should be simple to just plug them into the outlets on the inverter instead. no need to mess with the cabinet in the galley housing the 12v outlet I mentioned previously. It should be very easy to splice into those and run them to my small 400w inverter that I can now mount permanently inside that TV cabinet.

I have that 12V outlet in the cabinet over the sink does it make sense to install a small DC-to-AC inverter (400 watts or so) and mount it behind that cabinet to power the TV/Boxee Box? Has anyone successfully converted their small mid-cabin TV to DC power?īill - I was able to finally get back behind the TV cabinet today and take off that back panel to see what's behind there - and sure enough, there are those red/black 12v wires going to the DVD player!! I'm probably going to have to settle on an AC-powered TV as a replacement (my Boxee Box will certainly require AC power), but I'd really like to find a way to tap into the DC system to avoid needing the generator.

Here's a question I have - why did SR install AC outlets in the TV cabinet to power the TV, yet the KVC DVD and the Glomex system both run on DC? Had they wired the TV into the DC system, it would have made it possible to watch the TV without using the generator.Īlso interesting - the AC outlets in the TV cabinet are NOT shown in my Owner's Manual diagram, only the two AC outlets that are mounted OUTSIDE the cabinet, facing the forward V-berth on the port side. The current TV installed there is 120v AC, and either SR or the PO installed a RCA digital tuner to pull in the DTV signals from the factory Glomex antenna. So I've spent the past few weeks looking all over the web searching for various options - some AC, some DC, and some both. Well, instead of installing a new TV on the cabin bulkhead, I'm now looking to replace the factory-installed Zenith 15" TV near the V-berth with a better, HDTV model (with HDMI input) so that I can connect my Boxee Box and use the Slingbox app to connect to my DirecTV back at home via wireless internet.
